How to use the WebP to PNG Converter
- Select Choose files, or drop your .webp images on the page. You can paste a copied image too.
- Leave Make a color transparent off to keep the transparency you have. Switch it on, or select Remove white background, to clear one more color.
- Open Compare on a row to check the edges against the original on a checkerboard.
- Select Download for one PNG, or Download all (ZIP) for a group of them.
Keep the see-through parts
Logos, icons, stickers and cut-out product pictures all rely on transparency: the picture sits on a page or a slide with nothing behind it. WebP and PNG both store that, so converting between them keeps the empty areas empty.
A JPG can't do this. Convert a transparent WebP to JPG and the clear background turns into a solid color. If you need to place the image on top of other artwork, PNG is the format to ask for. That is the whole reason this page exists next to WebP to JPG.
PNG is also lossless, so the edges and flat colors stay crisp. Text and thin lines in a screenshot or a diagram look sharper than they would in a JPG, which smudges detail around hard edges. One caution: PNG preserves what the WebP already has. If the WebP was compressed with loss, those small flaws come along. Converting won't repair them.
Check the result with the Compare button. The comparison view is drawn on a checkerboard, so you can see exactly which parts are clear. An animated WebP becomes one still picture, because PNG here holds a single image.
PNG or JPG? It depends on the picture
Both are common destinations for a WebP, and the right choice follows the image itself.
Pick PNG when the picture has transparency, flat colors, sharp text or fine lines. Think of logos, charts, screenshots and illustrations. Those compress well as PNG and need exact edges.
Pick JPG when it is a photograph and the background is solid. A photo has millions of slightly different colors, and PNG stores every one of them. The same picture can be several times larger as PNG than as JPG or WebP.
You'll see this happen. WebP is a compact format, so a PNG made from it is usually bigger than the file you started with. When a result is more than three times the size of its original, a tip appears with two buttons: Convert to WebP instead and Keep PNG. Choose the first to get back a small file that still has transparency, or the second when you need a PNG for a particular app.
If the file ends up too large for an upload, Compress Image can shrink it to a size you choose. Open Advanced settings (optional) and pick Smaller file under the PNG options for graphics that use few colors.
Clear one more color
Not every WebP has a real transparent background. Some graphics come with a flat white or colored box behind them, which looks fine on a white page and clumsy anywhere else. The Make a color transparent card fixes that during the conversion.
Select Remove white background for the common case. It turns the card on, chooses white and applies the change right away. For another color, switch the card on and use the Color field to type or pick it. The Tolerance slider, from 0 to 50 and starting at 12, decides how close a shade has to be to the chosen color before it is cleared. A higher number clears more shades. Edges fade softly instead of cutting off hard, so outlines don't turn jagged.
This suits flat artwork with a single background color. A photo of a person against a wall has too many shades for it, and a color picker can't tell the person from the wall. For photos, use the Background Remover, which finds the subject itself.
If you already have transparency in the WebP, you don't need this card. Leave it off and the existing transparent areas stay as they are.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting WebP to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent areas in your WebP stay transparent in the PNG, because both formats store transparency. Check the result with Compare, which shows it on a checkerboard. If you convert to JPG instead, the clear areas are filled with a solid color, so choose PNG when you need to keep the background clear.
How do I convert a WebP to PNG?
Add your WebP file, wait a moment while it converts, and select Download on its row. The result is a PNG file that opens in nearly any app. For several images, add them all at once and use Download all (ZIP). No account or software install is needed.
Why is my PNG bigger than the WebP?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while WebP can compress much harder. A PNG made from a WebP is therefore often bigger, sometimes several times. If the extra size is a problem, accept the tip to convert to WebP instead, or run the PNG through Compress Image to reach a target size.
Is PNG better quality than JPG?
PNG is lossless, so it keeps every pixel it receives, and it supports transparency. JPG is lossy and smaller. Neither adds detail that the WebP no longer has. Choose PNG for graphics and sharp edges, and JPG for photos where a smaller file matters more.
How do I make the white background of a WebP transparent?
Select Remove white background in the Make a color transparent card. It clears white and fades the edges so outlines stay smooth. For a different color, turn the card on, set the Color, and adjust Tolerance. This suits flat artwork like logos, not photographs with many shades.
Can I convert several WebP files to PNG at once?
Yes. Add the whole group together and they convert with the same settings. Download all (ZIP) gathers every PNG into a single archive. One image can use different settings through the button on its row, for example if only that logo needs its white background cleared.
Are my WebP images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and your images are never uploaded, so brand artwork and unreleased designs stay private. The page works without an account, nothing is added to the PNG, such as a watermark, and closing the tab clears your files from it.
